Lunera started as an app for my wife and me. It is still that app — I just put it on the App Store in case it was useful to someone else too.
Hi, I'm Luka
I make Lunera. It is just me — no team, no investors, no company behind it. I have a full-time job and, more recently, a son, so Lunera gets built in the evenings, at weekends, and during a lot of naps.
One thing worth saying early: I am not a doctor or a midwife, and Lunera does not try to be one. It tells you what week you are on, how big your baby is, how long is left, and how far apart your contractions are. Everything beyond that belongs to the people actually looking after you — which is why every guide here ends with the same note.
How Lunera started
It started when my wife got pregnant.
We did what everyone does and downloaded a few pregnancy apps. None of them stuck. They were enormous — endless features, article feeds, forums, daily stories — and behind most of them a subscription, ads, trackers, analytics, or a sign-up screen before you could see anything at all. Some did not even work without an internet connection.
We just wanted something calm. Somewhere to see the week, the size, the countdown, during a stage that is genuinely lovely and goes by faster than you expect. We could not find it, so I built it. That became Lunera.
After that we kept adding the things we actually wanted, and left out everything we did not, trying hard not to overcomplicate it. When it felt good enough, I published it — in case anyone else was looking for the same thing we had been looking for.
How Lunera pays for itself
Between the job and the baby, my time is the scarce thing — and I would like to keep improving Lunera for a long time. That is what the PRO upgrade is for: a one-time purchase at a low entry price, yours for life. No subscription, no ads, nothing about you sold to anyone. It is what lets me keep supporting the app.
It is entirely optional, and I mean that. What Lunera gives you for free is more than enough to follow a whole pregnancy — the week, the size, the countdown, the widgets, the notifications, and the full contraction timer. Nothing is crippled to push you towards paying.
And if you would rather help another way: leaving a review on the App Store makes a real difference. It is the thing that gets Lunera in front of more families, and it costs nothing.

Where your data lives
On your phone, first and foremost. Your dates, your weeks and your contraction history are stored on the device, and the app and its widgets share them locally. I have no server, so there is nowhere else for them to go.
If you turn on iCloud sync, some of it also lives in your own iCloud — your Apple account, tied to your Apple ID, still private and still yours. It goes to Apple, not to me, and I cannot read it.
There is one third-party service in the app, and I would rather name it than let you find it: RevenueCat, which keeps track of whether you bought PRO. It receives an anonymous ID and Apple's transaction data — no name, no email, nothing about your pregnancy. That is the whole list. No analytics, no ads, no account system. About the guides here
The pregnancy and labor guides explain the ordinary, well-established things — how weeks are counted, what the trimesters are, how to time contractions — so the numbers in the app make sense. They always point you back to your midwife or doctor.
The rest are about the app itself: pricing, privacy, iPhone widgets. Those come from actually making Lunera and living with it through a pregnancy at home.
The calculators are worth a mention too. The due date calculator, the week calculator and the contraction timer all run in your browser — nothing you type into them is sent anywhere — and the week calculator uses the same counting logic as the app, so the two never disagree.
